This is the End

The end of the season has come upon us, providing the City of Chandler doesn't close the fields because of rain.

Regardless, we will have our End of Season Party at Coach & Willie's. Coach & Willie's is located on the corner of Arizona Ave and Boston St at 1 E. Boston St Chandler AZ 85225. There will be food and drinks provided and the festivities will begin after the playoffs!

We are also having our Toys 4 Tots Toy Drive. Please bring NEW UNWRAPPED toys to the party. I will be collecting them and taking them to the collection location.

The schedule for Wednesday is posted on the league website. At 7pm we will have our last regular season games. At 8pm the playoffs will start. All 4 teams will play at 7pm and at 8pm. Everyone has at least 2 games on Wednesday. Some of us will have 3 games that night. One team will win it all.

The seedings for the playoffs:
Any Given Wednesday will be the #1 seed.
Your Mom will be the #2 seed.
Winner of the 7pm game between Big Ballers and Scheddy Balls will be the #3 seed and play Your Mom at 8pm.

Please call/text me if you have any questions about what will be happening this Wednesday.

Week 4 & MidSeason Party

We are about half way throught he season and everyone still has a chance at making the playoffs. Some teams are a little more confident about their chances of winning the championship than others. To help level the playing field I put together a video to explain the basics of kickball to those that still don't get it.
Here is the link:

Regarding the midseason party:
I looked at the calendar and saw that this weekend is a holiday weekend and I will be rescheduling the party. Date and details coming soon.

Do you like to play cornhole? Cornhole Contest at McDuffy's? Yes. Details on the contest and prizes coming soon.

Week 2

The schedule has been updated and can be seen on the league homepage.

Last Wednesday everyone but 4 players that registered late should have received their shirt. Please email me if you did not receive a shirt last Wednesday.

Last week was a little hectic in the beginning and I thank all of you for being patient while we got things going.

They have corn hole toss contests at the bar. Are you guys interested in having a contest between the teams? If so, let me know.

What other games are you all interested in playing at the bar? We have options.

On another note:

The previous non-profit that we sponsored was a theatre company and it is opening its season this weekend. The show is called "What About Luv?"
Here is a description:
A brilliant adaptation of the hilarious tongue-in-cheek comedy about love in all its neurotic glory. Harry is about to jump off the Brooklyn Bridge when his old school buddy Milt happens by and coaxes him in. Turns out that Milt was at the bridge to push his estranged wife Ellen into the brink! But now he has a more humane thought -- He encourages Ellen and Harry to get together! Then Milt is free to run off with his girlfriend. It looks like all will be well, but one year later, Ellen and Milt meet again at the bridge!

You may get more info about getting 2-4-1 tickets at http://www.azjewishtheatre.org/world.html

I will see you all on the field.

Week 1

Week 1 was fun. It got off to a slow start. We only have one undefeated team left and I don't think they will be undefeated for much longer.

Regarding the schedule:
There will be some changes made to the schedule and I will have them posted for you before Saturday. Please check the league homepage or leisuresport.blogspot.com for the updated schedule on Saturday.

I will be sending another email on Monday to remind you all about the schedule changes and all other updates about the league.

Regarding t-shirts:
I know that everyone did not get their shirt on Wednesday. Everyone that registered before The Draft Party should have received a t-shirt. Please email me if you did not receive a t-shirt. I will have more shirts next week.

This season has gotten off to a really fun start. Let's keep it going.

You will be able to purchase raffle tickets at the field next week and at the End of Season party for $1. It's an awesome deal. They put on entertaining shows and all the shows do not have a jewish theme. I sit on the board and invite all of you to come check out a show this season. The schedule is below:

2011 Brewers Association Award Winners

2011 Brewers Association Award Winners: "

Each year at the migratory Craft Brewers Conference, held this past weekend in San Francisco, the Brewers Association recognizes and honors three members of the craft brewing industry. Jennifer Talley of Squatters Pub Brewery/Salt Lake Brewing Co. won the Russell Schehrer Award for Innovation in Brewing, becoming the first woman to win this award. With over 20 years of brewing experience and multiple medals from the Great American Beer Fest under her belt, Talley was also feted by John Harris, brewmaster at Full Sail who received the award in 2001. “She has all of the character of previous winners of this award,” said Harris, referencing such past winners as Vinnie Cilurzo from Russian River and Dan Carey from New Glarus. He added that Talley has “a passion for beer, passion for our industry and passion for expanding her and her fellow brewers’ knowledge.”

The Russell Schehrer Award for Innovation in Brewing was created to honor Russell Schehrer who died in 1996. He co-founded Colorado’s first brewpub, Wynkoop Brewing, and his innovations include creating or reintroducing several styles of beer.

The Brewers Association Recognition Award went to John McDonald of Boulevard Brewing Co. The award has been bestowed to members of all facets of the brewing industry and community, beginning with renowned beer writer Michael Jackson in 1987. Two years later, McDonald founded Boulevard near the geographic center of the country, Kansas City, thereby becoming one of the first to introduce small batch brewing to the Midwest. His brewery today employs over 90 people and has a capacity near 600,000 barrels. An ebullient McDonald was spotted in a hospitality suite after the award ceremony receiving thanks and congratulations.

Last but not least, the F.X. Matt Defense of the Industry Award went to Dan Kopman of St. Louis Brewery/Schlafly Beer. Despite or because of working in the shadow of the towering Anheuser-Busch brewery in the same city, Kopman is recognized for his leadership within the craft brewing industry and his work to ensure that his fellow brewers are treated fairly by federal regulations. His tireless efforts include promoting the BEER Act. The Brewer’s Employment and Excise Relief Act, introduced by Senators John Kerry (D-MA) and Mike Crapo (R-ID), would reduce the beer excise tax for craft brewers.

The F.X. Matt Defense of the Industry Award is actually in memoriam to F.X. Matt II (1993-2001), whose grandfather created the West End Brewery in 1888 before it was eponymously renamed. Previous recipients include Steve Hindy, co-owner of the Brooklyn Brewery (2010) and Daniel Bradford, past BAA president and publisher of All About Beer Mgazine (2006).
